Our favorite Stays Under The Thousand Trails Cabin Pass

We have been members of the cabin pass program since July 2022, and now that we've been using it for almost two years, I wanted to share our experience with the membership. Overall, it has been a great deal for us, considering the price we paid. However, some of the cabins/lodging require serious maintenance, and if we were paying the full price to stay in them, we would not be satisfied.

To help others maximize their experience with the Thousand Trails cabin pass, I am sharing our top 4 stays and why we love them.

1. Fiesta Key Resort, FL Keys

This is our favorite resort under the cabin pass, and we covered it extensively in our last post, HOW WE STAYED 60 NIGHTS UNDER $60 AT FIESTA KEY RESORT.

This is our top choice for the Thousand Trails Cabin pass due to its location, amenities, nearby activities, and cabins with stunning water views from your back porch. As I covered in our review, the resort has almost everything you need, and if you feel like parking your car for the week and staying put, Fiesta Key Resort makes it easy to do that. They also have 24-hour gated onsite security.

Cabins:

The cabins are on the water and can comfortably accommodate six guests. Each cabin features a fully equipped kitchen, 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, and two porches to relax and enjoy the view. Additionally, there is an upstairs loft with two twin beds and a sleeper sofa in the living room. The kitchen comes equipped with full-size appliances, glassware, dishes, and utensils, and linens are provided. These cabins are essentially tiny homes, a common feature at most Thousand Trails locations.

Amenities and Entertainment:

They offer a wide range of onsite activities and amenities, including live entertainment, a full-service restaurant with a tiki bar, boat slips, golf cart rentals, onsite fishing charters, a marina store with bait, food, drinks, and more for sale, a huge pool, a beach swimming area, and two hot tubs. During the winter season, they also host wine and cheese or champagne sunset toasts down at their sunset point.

Fiesta Key Resort is in a prime location between two popular tourist destinations, Marathon and Islamorada. During our visits, we usually take a trip to our favorite town, Islamorada. There are plenty of restaurants and activities suitable for all ages. You can find more information about our favorite places in Islamorada by visiting our blog post A perfect day in islamorada. and day trip to islamorada

2.Encore Sunshine Travel, Vero Beach

We had an amazing stay at this location and were very pleased with the accommodations and nearby attractions. However, we believe that Thousand Trails could do a better job of updating the photos of their cabins on their website. We thought we were getting an older-looking cabin based on the pictures on the Thousand Trails direct site, but when we arrived, we were pleasantly surprised to find ourselves in a brand new tiny home where the pull-out couch still had the plastic on it. As I mentioned in my previous review, Thousand Trails resorts are not created equal, so reviewing each resort campground before booking is essential.

Cabins:

Hotels in Vero Beach can be pricey, so we loved our stay in the area under our Thousand Trails Cabin Pass. We stayed at a tiny home directly across from the pool, so I would ask about this one when booking and try to contact the membership specialist for that location. This new tiny home has a full kitchen with a dining table for four, a patio with a small seating area overlooking the pool, and a bonus: a washer and dryer. We stayed comfortably as two couples, with one of us having our own room and the other sleeping on the pull-out sofa.

Amenities and Entertainment

We explored the area each day, so we didn't get to participate in any onsite activities or use the pool. However, we walked over to the pool area and noticed it was usually quiet. Even though there are mostly full-time residents in the park, it is clean and peaceful, and there is not a lot of clutter outside the sites like we have seen at some other locations. Our stay exceeded our expectations, and the campground also had a gated entrance, which required a key fab to enter each time, so safety was not an issue.

Things to do in Vero Beach

During the day, we went fishing and took a short drive to Fort Pierce. On our second visit, we discovered one of our favorite restaurants, Ocean Grill Vero Beach. It's on the beach, the food is amazing, and we loved the ocean-side atmosphere. If you like shopping like we do, the Vero Beach Outlets have over 30 storefronts you can access.

Despite my husband's advice, I would like to share our favorite fishing spot - Wasbasso Causeway Park. This is an ideal location for fishing if you don't have access to a boat. Every time we visited, we spent a whole day there as the park has restrooms, picnic tables, and a small pier that extends over the Indian River.

3. Thousand Trails Williamsburg Virginia

This was our first visit to Williamsburg, VA; my in-laws came with us. They loved the cabin so much that they got their own Thousand Trails Cabin Pass. We loved the resort grounds, and our cabin was the largest one we've stayed in under the program. Since we were new to the cabin pass when we stayed, we missed the fine print that said we needed to bring our linens. When we brought it up to the front desk, they waived the $25 linen fee that comes along with their provided bedding and told us it was no problem this time. So be sure to check on that when booking a cabin.

Cabins:

We loved this cabin; it was the only one we had ever seen with two bedrooms, each with its bathrooms and showers. It had a fully equipped kitchen and an outdoor fire pit. The office also sells firewood. The cabin was well-maintained, and we had everything we needed. The resort also boasts several amenities, including a large indoor swimming pool and hot tub, a game room, a sitting area near the front office to work from, a store, and pickleball and tennis courts. Despite being close to many attractions, the resort's numerous trees and seclusion give the feeling of camping in the woods.

My phone decided to erase all of my photos and videos from this trip, but if you go to our Instagram @Followyourpark, we made a reel of York River State Park and a tour of the resort at Thousand Trails Williamsburg. I snagged photos below off of trip advisor, and I’m super bummed I lost my cabin tour video-guess. We’ll have to return soon.

I’m a musician, so I booked a photo shoot in historic Williamsburg, and I’m so happy with how the photos turned out.

Things to do in Williamsburg, Virginia

Williamsburg, Virginia, is known for its rich history, but there are plenty of activities and attractions for visitors.

The main town attractions, including Jamestown, Yorktown, and Colonial Williamsburg, are just a short drive from the campground. The historic Jamestowne visitor center is about 25 miles away, while Colonial Williamsburg is just a 15-minute drive from the Thousand Trails campground.

Apart from all the historical attractions, Williamsburg also offers plenty of opportunities for shopping and dining. We enjoyed exploring Merchant Square, a popular shopping destination with various stores offering everything from souvenirs to handmade crafts. We had a delicious lunch at the famous Cheese Shop, which offers various sandwiches and other goodies to satisfy any appetite..

If you're a nature enthusiast and enjoy exploring the great outdoors, consider planning a visit to York River State Park in Williamsburg, VA. This beautiful state park perfectly blends lush greenery, scenic river views, and historic significance. It offers activities like hiking, fishing, kayaking, and camping. It was $5 to get in under the honor system, and we enjoyed the hiking trails and water views.

We love exploring wineries on our trips and recommend visiting the Williamsburg Winery. This award-winning winery offers tours, tastings, and a restaurant featuring locally sourced ingredients.

We enjoyed exploring Williamsburg and loved our stay with Thousand Trails under our cabin pass. If you're planning a trip to the area, I recommend staying for at least a week so you can visit all the different attractions

Thousand Trails Verde Valley

We have nothing but great things to say about this beautiful desert retreat. Thousand Trails Verde Valley, located in Cottonwood, Arizona, is one of the most beautiful parks we've visited with our membership. I will note that some buildings, like the clubhouse, could use a little updating, but our cabin was perfect and cozy. We loved our stay and the fact that there was a winery just outside the property and more than we could visit surrounding it.

Cabins:

The cabin was slightly cramped for two couples as it had only one bedroom. It's the largest on the property, so keep this in mind if you're traveling with other adults. We slept on the pull-out couch while my in-laws stayed in the main bedroom. Apart from these sleeping arrangements, two bunk beds looked more suitable for small children beside the bathroom but worked great for storage space. The living room was small, but there were plenty of outdoor activities in the surrounding area, including Sedona, AZ, about 25 miles away, so with all the things to do in the area, we only spent a little time inside the cabin. The cabin also had a firepit; someone came around daily to dispose of any leftover ash. They also provided a gas grill. I walked around the park daily and enjoyed the rolling hills and the views. The resort is so large I got lost one day and had to have Garret locate me. That was quite entertaining!

Things To Do in Verde Valley

If you are planning to visit the Verde Valley, there are numerous exciting activities you can indulge in. You can go hiking or sightseeing, taste wine, or explore ancient ruins; there is something for everyone. During my recent visit, I got the chance to visit the monument at Montezuma's Castle, which was just 15 minutes away from our cabin. We went on many hikes, and be sure to put Jerome State Park on your list!

Tip: We have T-Mobile and had trouble with our cell service at this park. (Our booster worked fine at the other parks we covered today)They have a clubhouse with Wi-Fi, and you can upgrade to their upper-tier Wi-Fi service. I noticed a few people working remotely out of the clubhouse, and they had lots of room and the proper seating areas for a work area.
