The area is filled with educational experiences and outdoor adventures that everyone can enjoy. We've compiled a list of our top 6 favorite things to do in the Middle Keys with children. Whether you're seeking a fun-filled day at the beach, exploring nature, or learning about the local history, there's something for everyone. Check out our list below and make your family vacation one to remember!

1. Dolphin Research Center on Grassy Key,

The center offers a variety of programs and activities, including dolphin encounters, where visitors can get up close and personal with the dolphins, learn about their behavior, and even swim with them. We did a dolphin encounter and highly recommend it. Also, all of the proceeds go back to the center.

2. The Turtle Hospital on Marathon Key

The Turtle Hospital in Marathon is a great place to visit if you love sea turtles and want to see them up close. They offer guided tours and the opportunity to see injured turtles and the hospital's daily operations. It's an excellent educational experience for both kids and adults, and you'll learn a lot about these fantastic creatures and their conservation. The tours are informative, and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. If you're ever in Marathon, be sure to make a stop at The Turtle Hospital - it's worth it! For a day of fun in the sun, Sombrero Beach in Marathon is the perfect spot with its calm waters and soft sand.

3. At Crane Point Hammock

Crane Point Hammock is a nature preserve and historic site in Marathon, Florida. The site also has a museum and a nature center where visitors can learn about the area's history and ecology. There's lots to do here, like taking a trolley tour, exploring the Crane House, walking trails, snorkeling and kayak rentals, and even a fish pedicure. You can easily spend the whole day here with your family, and it won't break the bank, which is always a plus for us.

4. Florida Keys Aquarium Encounters

Have you ever heard of the Florida Keys Aquarium Encounters in Marathon? It's an amazing place where you can interact with marine life, such as snorkeling and swimming with sharks. It's definitely worth a visit if you're in the area and want to get up close and personal with some fascinating sea creatures! We got to touch string rays and other marine life on our visit, but we weren't brave enough to swim with the sharks. Maybe one day!

5. Pigeon Key-Marathon Fl

Pigeon Key is another must-visit destination, where you can explore historic buildings and enjoy snorkeling and picnicking on the island's beaches. We spent a full day here, and I included the full details in an earlier blog post visting pigeon key in marathon, Florida We had a blast fishing, learned to identify different types of fish and marine life, enjoyed our packed lunch on the private island, and ended with an interactive touch tank.

6. Robbie's in Islamorada

We always take our friends and family to visit Robbies in Islamorada. Their Tarpon Feeding experience is a must-see attraction in the area. But that's not all - you can also rent a boat or go on a fishing charter to make a whole day out of it. The on-site restaurant offers a unique and delicious "trailer trash Bloody Mary" to start your day. Remember to visit the gift shops, but

most importantly- they can get pretty busy during peak season. We recommend heading over as soon as they open to avoid the crowds.
